This policy explains what Cheato collects, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We keep it short and in plain language on purpose. Cheato is operated from India. If any part is unclear, write to us at hello@cheato.store.
Who we are
Cheato is an AI study assistant delivered as a Chrome extension and a website at cheato.store. When this policy says "we", "us" or "Cheato", it means the team that runs that service.
What we collect
- Account details. Your name, email address, and a securely hashed password when you sign up.
- Questions you send. The text or screenshot of a question you ask Cheato to answer, so we can generate a response.
- Notes you upload. If you use the notes feature, the files you upload so we can answer from your own material.
- Usage counters. How many answers you have used, so we can apply your daily or monthly limit.
- Billing records. If you buy a plan, our payment processor handles your card or UPI details. We only keep a record that the payment succeeded, the plan, and the amount. We never see or store full card numbers.
- Basic technical data. Standard log data such as your browser type and a timestamp, used to keep the service running and secure.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data to anyone.
- We do not use your questions or notes to train our own models.
- We do not run advertising trackers on you.
How we use what we collect
- To generate answers to the questions you send.
- To run your account, apply your plan limits, and process payments.
- To send you account email such as verification codes, login codes, password resets, and receipts.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
AI providers
To answer your questions, we pass them to trusted AI providers such as Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. They process the request to return an answer and are contractually restricted in how they may use it. We send only what is needed to answer, never your name or email.
Account email is sent through Amazon SES. We only send transactional messages you would expect: verification and login codes, password resets, receipts, and important account notices. We do not add you to a marketing list without asking.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. Questions and uploaded notes are kept only as long as needed to run the feature and are removed when you delete them or close your account. Billing records are kept as long as the law requires.
Your choices
- You can view and update your account details at any time.
- You can delete your uploaded notes whenever you want.
- You can ask us to delete your account and associated data by writing to hello@cheato.store.
Security
Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Traffic is encrypted in transit. Provider and payment keys live only on our server and are never placed in the extension. No system is perfect, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
Children
Cheato is meant for students aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for meaningful changes, let you know by email or in the app.
